The challenge is on as businesses sign up for Cycle4Cynthia
The corporate gauntlet has been laid down – with Grant Thornton challenging other local busineses to sign up for Cycle4Cynthia and raise much needed funds along the way.Chartered accountancy firm Grant Thornton won the top prize for their fancy dress costumes at last year’s Cycle4Cynthia and also raised an impressive £2,000. Their CAT team (Central Administration Team) climbed on board tandems and dressed up as cats for the fundraising event and the firm is looking forward to making another dramatic entry this year.
More than 25 Grant Thornton staff will be taking part – with representatives in all three routes.
Senior Partner Steve Robinson said: “Our staff are once again planning to support Cynthia Spencer in force with volunteers from both our Kettering and Northampton offices keen to cycle to raise money for two very worthy local charities.
“We have a lot to live up to and despite the challenging economic times we hope to beat last years £2,000. Along the way we hope to get a little fitter and possibly lighter, to make up for sitting at our desks all day.”
Cycle4Cynthia, now in its sixth year and scheduled for Sunday, September 27th, is once again raising money for two charities which provide care and support for people with cancer and cancer related illness in Northamptonshire - The Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Other companies already enlisted for the September event include Royal Mail, Stanair, The University of Northampton and British Pepper and Spice.
John Pinkham, Chairman of Cycle4Cynthia, said: “This year we are focusing on raising as money as possible and sponsorship will be at the heart of our success. Last year we raised £34,000 for the two charities but we are determined to step the fundraising up a gear and raise at least £40,000 in 2009. We can only do this if all our cyclists get sponsored. Just imagine how well we would all do if everyone raised £100!”
Cycle4Cynthia 2009 will, for the second year running, link up with the Saints and the event’s three routes - five, 25 and 50 miles in length – will start and finish at the home of the Saints rugby team, Franklin’s Gardens.
