Pedal power wanted for cycle ride!
Cyclists from across Northamptonshire and beyond are once again being encouraged to leap into the saddle to show their support for the county’s favourite annual fundraising bike ride, Cycle 4 Cynthia 2015, on its twelfth anniversary! The event, which has raised almost a third of a million pounds over the last eleven years, is being launched at the home of Northampton Saints, Franklin’s Gardens at 6pm on Wednesday 11th February.
A record 1300 riders created a leg-spinning spectacle at Lamport Hall near Kettering last autumn when the event was opened by one of the club’s double champion players, second row Sam Dickinson, and while the final figure is not being revealed until the launch itself, they are expected to have raised tens of thousands of pounds for last year’s two benefitting charities, Cynthia Spencer Hospice and Kidsaid, the Northampton charity which supports youngsters who have suffered bereavement, bullying, abuse or family issues.
Among those who’ll be out in force for this year’s ride is Neil Harpham who, having ridden as part of a team from solicitors Hewitsons LLP, says he’s looking forward to donning his lycra for the fourth time; “We had about a dozen of us ride last year, all of different ages and abilities, and that’s part of the joy of the event” explained Neil.
“It doesn’t matter whether you pedal for pleasure or take cycling more seriously, it’s simply a wonderful day to be involved in, knowing you’re helping others while enjoying a beautiful ride, and I’d really encourage everyone to show their support by taking part and experience that amazing atmosphere” he added.
Cycle 4 Cynthia 2015, offering riders 5, 25 or 50 mile routes, is taking place on Sunday 13th September, with further details to be announced at the launch.
Meanwhile the launch will also see the trophies for the largest corporate team, most money raised by an individual and best fancy dress at last year’s event being presented by Sam Dickinson, fellow Saintsman Christian Day and coach Jim Mallinder who is hoping, subject to the autumn fixture list, to be riding for the third time this year.
Any businesses wishing to take part are cordially invited to attend the event at Franklin’s Gardens at 6pm on Wednesday 11th February. To find out more details, to book your place or to pledge your involvement in the ride, please contact Sue Bownass at the hospice on 01604 678088.
