Cycle4Cynthia bids to make this year’s event the magnificent seventh!
The organisers of Northamptonshires most exciting annual charity bike ride – Cycle4Cynthia - are hoping that riders from across the county will come out in force to help make this year its magnificent seventh! The event, which raises money for two charities providing care and support for people with cancer and cancer-related illness in Northamptonshire - The Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support - is scheduled for Sunday, September 26th.
Last years event, which was opened by singer-songwriter Curtis Stigers, raised a record-breaking £40,000 for the two charities, but the organisers are determined to step up the fundraising a gear to reach their £50,000 target and attract a record 1,000 cyclists.
John Pinkham, Chairman of Cycle4Cynthia, said: “Every year we hope that the event will be better than it has been before and that was certainly true of the fabulous day we had last year! The turnout was fantastic and we really want to say a big thank you to all those who took part.”
“But if were going build on that in 2010 were going to need more support than ever – both in terms of the number of people entering and the sponsorship cyclists raise. So why not grab some friends, sign up and have a great day out!”
That sentiment was confirmed by Fiona Hunt who led the contingent from Brackmills-based British Pepper and Spice – one of nineteen corporate teams which took part. “It was a wonderful event!” she said. “From hearing Curtis inspiring words as we set off, to the beautiful ride round the Northamptonshire countryside, to the joy of knowing we were raising money for two great causes, the team just couldnt stop talking about it for days afterwards! As a result, weve already recruited loads more cyclists to join the team this year and Id encourage everyone to take part!”
Cycle4Cynthia 2010 will, for the third year running, link up with the Saints and the events three routes - five, 25 and 50 miles in length – will start and finish at the clubs home ground, Franklins Gardens.
Lisa Donald, from Macmillan Cancer Support, said “Im so proud to have been a part of another really great Cycle4Cynthia. Its become a real fixture in Northamptonshires fundraising calendar and, with the help of Macmillans supporters, I know this year will be even better!”
“Macmillan has a target of £484,000 to raise for this county alone and the event is a key fundraiser for us. We would urge anyone of any age to register and raise sponsorship for this extremely important event for the charity which helps us keep the services we provide to the community up and running.”
Sue Bownass, from the Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice, added “We had some fantastic feedback from last years ride with so many people saying it was the best year yet. So dont miss this great opportunity to have fun, get healthy and raise lots of funds for cancer support in your local community. With your help, we can continue to offer five star treatment to all our patients at the hospice.”
