Cycle4Cynthia launches centenary challenge!
An increase in rates in the middle-aged. A greater risk the taller you are.
Sadly barely a week goes by when the issue of cancer doesn’t make it into the headlines for the wrong reasons, which is why the work of Macmillan Cancer Support is all the more important, one hundred years after the charity was founded.
To mark the centenary, the organisers of Northamptonshire’s biggest annual fundraising bike ride are laying down a special challenge to its cyclists this year – to raise at least £100 in sponsorship each – a pound for every year of the charity – with the reward of being entered into a prize draw to win a family hot air balloon trip!
Cycle 4 Cynthia, taking place at Althorp on Sunday 25th September, is one of the key fundraisers in the calendar for both Macmillan and The Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice and according to Macmillan’s Fundraising Manager for Northamptonshire, Marcus Cox, taking part would be a great way to join in their celebrations. “2011 is a very important year for us and offers a perfect excuse for everyone to demonstrate their support of our vital work by getting involved. So I urge everyone to join us for this wonderfully fun event and hopefully raise £100 – perhaps even more if they can!”
Sue Bownass from The Friends agreed. “Last year we had over 800 cyclists join us and helped us to raise £40,000 which was fantastic. But this year we’re hoping that our new beautiful venue of Althorp will help to attract more than 1000 riders and if they could possibly all raise £100, that’s £100,000 in the kitty! We’re really grateful to Robert Wiseman Dairies for donating the prize because as well as knowing that the money is helping our two great charities, we hope the hot air balloon ride is an added incentive for people to raise as much as they can.”
£100 can help Macmillan to:
• keep a typical Macmillan information and support centre stocked for a week
• pay for a Macmillan nurse for half a day
• take a big step in its £1.55m appeal for its new haematology unit at Northampton General Hospital
Aside from the £100+ prize draw, anyone who raises sponsorship will be entered into a draw to win a £50 voucher to spend at Marks and Spencer.
Cycle 4 Cynthia 2011 is taking place at Althorp on Sunday 25th September and will again offer cyclists the challenge of 5, 25 or 50-mile routes. Entry is £10 for adults, £5 for children and £25 for families. For more details, including online registering and to download a sponsorship form, please visit www.cycle4cynthia.com
