County challenged to make this year’s Cycle4Cynthia a record breaker
In a bid to raise more money than ever before Northamptonshire’s most exciting annual charity cycle ride – Cycle4Cynthia – is challenging the county’s residents to get on their bikes for charity and make 2009 a record breaking year. The event, which raises money for two charities which provide care and support for people with cancer and cancer related illness in Northamptonshire - The Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support - is scheduled for Sunday, September 27th.
Last year’s event raised £34000 for the two charities but this year organisers are determined to step the fundraising up a gear and are determined to raise at least £40,000 and attract a record 1,000 cyclists.
John Pinkham, Chairman of Cycle4Cynthia, said: “To reach our target we will need more support than ever before – both in terms of the numbers of people entering and the sponsorship cyclists raise. We will need individuals, families, businesses and organisations from across the county to take part and, to help us do this, we are launching a County Challenge - urging every village and district of Northamptonshire to enter at least one person into the event.”
Cycle4Cynthia 2009 will, for the second year running, link up with the Saints and the event’s three routes - five, 25 and 50 miles in length – will start and finish at the home of the Saints rugby team, Franklin’s Gardens.
Lisa Donald, from Macmillan Cancer Support, added: “Cycle for Cynthia has become an event for the whole county and especially for Macmillan’s supporters to get involved in. We had so many excellent comments about last year’s event and our new routes, so we are urging everyone to get on their bikes and cycle again this year.
“Macmillan has a target of £484,000 to raise for this county alone and Cycle4Cynthia is a key fundraiser for us. We urge people to register and raise sponsorship as this is extremely important for the charity as it helps us keep the services we provide to the community up and running.”
Sue Bownass, from the Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice, added: “Cynthia Spencer Hospice is at the heart of the community and essential to so many lives.
To maintain our exceptional quality of care, we have to raise £650.000 a year through fundraising activities and charitable donations. That is why it’s more important than ever that we continue to have the support of the local community, so please join us at this very worthwhile event – and get on your bike!”
