C4C 2010 – Inspired by the Tour de France? Why not try the Tour de Northamptonshire??
The professionals may have hung up their lycra and bicycle clips for another year but if the Tour de France has got you thinking of pedalling, there’s no need to wait that long – why not join the Tour de Northamptonshire?!Yes, Cycle 4 Cynthia 2010 is set for Sunday 26th September and with just two months to go, now’s the perfect time to reach for those two wheels and sign up to take part in the county’s biggest cycling extravaganza!
Ok, so there’s no head-butting, no last minute sprints and no yellow jerseys but instead the promise of a fun day out and the joy of knowing that you’re supporting two of the county’s greatest charities – the Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice and the county branch of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Six years since the first ride and more than 100,000 pounds later, the organisers are hoping that this year will be the event’s ‘magnificent seventh’ and raise a record-breaking £50,000!
Said C4C’s chairman, John Pinkham “You’ve heard of the ‘Wimbledon effect’ – when everyone digs out their racquets from cupboards and the county’s tennis courts overflow with budding Nadals? We’ll we’re hoping that the Tour de France has a similar effect and everyone leaps into their saddles. We had nearly 700 riders take part last year and we hope that, with the county’s wonderful support again, we can encourage up to 1000 to enter this year to help these two fantastic charities.”
Cycle4Cynthia 2010 will, for the third year running, link up with the Saints and the event’s three routes - five, 25 and 50 miles in length – will start and finish at the club’s home ground, Franklin’s Gardens. Entry is £10 for adults, £5 for children and £25 for families and entry forms and sponsorship forms are available by visiting www.cycle4cynthia.co.uk More details are also available by calling 01604 678088.
Sue Bownass, from the Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice, commented, “With two months to go before this year’s event, the excitement is really building now. We have to raise £650,000 a year through fundraising activities and charitable donations to maintain our exceptional quality of care and I know that, with Northamptonshire’s support, we will achieve it. I would urge anyone of any age to come and join us for what is always a wonderfully inspiring day!”
Meanwhile Marcus Cox, who is Macmillan Cancer Support s new fundraising manager for Northamptonshire added “I want to say a massive thank you to all those who have already signed up. The charity has an annual target of £518,000 for the county alone and so the event is a key fundraiser for us, helping us to maintain the services we provide to the community. I would encourage everyone to jump into their saddles and be part of this fabulous ride!”
