Businesses sign up for Cycle4Cynthia’s fundraising pedal power

Suits are being swapped for saddles this year as more businesses than ever before sign up for Cycle4Cynthia 2009.

Companies are being urged to help make this year’s fundraising cycle ride a record breaker and corporates which have already enlisted for the September event include Grant Thornton, Royal Mail, Stanair, The University of Northampton and British Pepper and Spice.

Ian James, Chief Executive of British Pepper and Spice, is one of those leading the way by dusting off the cobwebs from his bike.

“I will be doing all I can to encourage my colleagues to take up the challenge so that we can help raise as much money as possible for these two fantastic causes,” he said. “The company will also double any sponsorship raised by our team so there’s a big incentive to get pedalling - and to donate.”

John Pinkham, Chairman of Cycle4Cynthia, said: “A huge thank you to all the businesses that have already signed up. With more than 10 companies already showing a commitment to take part, we are well on track to raise more money than ever before.

“Corporate support is vital to us if we’re going to meet this year’s target, yet we know that a lot of businesses are finding times tough at the moment. We’re not asking firms to give money but we hope that, by encouraging as many staff members as possible to sign up, team spirit will help raise many more thousands of pounds.”

Cycle4Cynthia, now in its sixth year and scheduled for Sunday, September 27th, raises money for two charities which provide care and support for people with cancer and cancer related illness in Northamptonshire - The Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support -.

Last year’s event raised £34,000 for the two charities but this year organisers are determined to step the fundraising up a gear in the hope of raising at least £40,000 and attracting a record 1,000 cyclists.

Cycle4Cynthia 2009 will, for the second year running, link up with the Saints and the event’s three routes - five, 25 and 50 miles in length – will start and finish at the home of the Saints rugby team, Franklin’s Gardens.
